Supplyframe’s Q3 Commodity Intelligence Quarterly Indicates Component Shortages Abating in Some Categories

Supplyframe’s Q3 Commodity Intelligence Quarterly (CIQ) indicates shortening lead times, stabilizing prices, and lower demand for select electronic components.

In an effort to bolster semiconductor chip production to compete with China, the U.S. has begun placing a much larger emphasis on in-house production.

Bloomberg reports Chinese makers have seen orders from overseas customers slowing, with some predicting flat demand at best compared with last year.

Supplyframe shares that while demand is decreasing in certain areas, it remains robust in others:

  • Programmable logic devices experienced a 9% increase
  • Capacitor and resistor demand shrunk by 12%
  • Global demand was down 11% month-on-month in June versus historical 4% increases, with Asia-Pacific and the EMEA region declining by 11% and 14%, respectively
  • Overall memory demand dipped 6% from quarter one to quarter two and is forecasted to decrease again quarter three by 2%
